Pseudotribos fossil map

Where fossils of Pseudotribos have been found, shown on the Earth as it looked about 160 million years ago and on today’s map.

Dots are fossil collections recorded in the Paleobiology Database. The “then” view moves today’s fossil sites back to their positions 160 million years ago (the time slice nearest the median age of the fossils) using the Merdith et al. (2021) plate model; positions are approximate. Open on the timeline map →

About Pseudotribos

Pseudotribos ("false chewing") is an extinct genus of mammaliaform that lived in Northern China during the Middle Jurassic some 165 million years ago, possibly more closely related to monotremes than to theria (placental and marsupial mammals), although other studies indicate that these shuotheres are closer to therians than to monotremes. The only known specimen was found in the Daohugou Bed in Inner Mongolia (41.3°N 119.2°E / 41.3; 119.2: paleocoordinates 42.6°N 122.4°E / 42.6; 122.4).
